Swimming Lessons
YMCA Swim Lessons are offered year round. If you are unsure which level your child should attend, please visit with the YMCA swim lesson coordinator. You may register for swim lessons at the YMCA or you may register online by clicking here. Online registrations is not available for private or semi-private lessons.

Summer Sessions: June 1-11 June 15-Aug. 5
Listed below are the levels offered:
- Water Babies (6 months to 3 years). Parent and child class. Children will explore the aquatic environment through fun and games.
- Little Skippers (3-5 years). Children will learn floating front and back with a floatation device, going under water, learning to paddle and water safety.
- Big Skippers (3-5 years). Children will be introduced to treading water and diving safety and build endurance as they swim on their front and back.
- Polliwogs - This is the beginning level for school age children. Children must be at least 6 to participate in this level of lessons.
- Guppy - Children start to learn strokes. Floating without assistance and treading water will be skills improved upon.
- Minnows - Students build endurance. Participants will be able to swim the length of the pool as they continue to refine their strokes.
- Fish - Students perfect their strokes and learn new diving skills.
- Flying Fish - Endurance and stroke refinement will be the focus as well as water safety and deep water games. Butterfly and flip turns will also be taught.
- Adult Lessons - Helps beginning students learn to swim.
- Private Lessons: The YMCA also offers private and semi-private swim lessons. Member prices are $10 per 30-minute session for private lessons and $7 per 30-minute session for semi-private lessons.
- Splash Program Each spring, the YMCA offers free swim lessons to second graders who have never had the opportunity to learn to swim. For more information on dates and times, please contact the YMCA swim lesson coordinator.
Swimming pool
The YMCA houses a 25-yard indoor swimming pool. The average pool temperature is between 82 and 84 degrees.
Pool hours
Mondays-Thursdays — 5:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; and 4 p.m.-9 p.m. Fridays, 5:30 a.m.-9 p.m. (adults 18 and older only from 8-9 p.m. Monday through Friday.) Saturday — 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday — 1-5:30 p.m.
Pool rules
- Any behavior that jeopardizes the safety and comfort of pool users is not permitted. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
- No running on the deck and in the locker rooms.
- No pushing, dunking, splashing, spitting or horseplay.
- No hanging on lane lines, ladders, handrails, or lifeguard chairs.
- Only jumping feet first or diving in designated areas are allowed from the side of the pool.
- Cutoff shorts, T-shirts, or gym shorts are NOT permitted in the water, and bathing suits should not be overly revealing or offensive.
- Only coast guard approved life jackets are allowed. No noodles, arm floaties, and other personal flotation devices.
- All pool equipment must be properly used. Kickboards, noodles, water dumbbells, etc., are for swimming lessons, water aerobics, and lap swimming. Adults can request to use the pool equipment.
- All children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper under a snug fitting bathing suit. Swim diapers are available to purchase at the front desk.
- Starting blocks are for swim team only.
- Water in plastic bottles is allowed. Juice, soda, or glass containers are not allowed.
- No food, candy, or gum is allowed in the pool or on the deck.
- Please dry off completely before entering the locker rooms. Clothes and shoes must be worn in all areas outside the pool.
- All slide users must go down feet first on their back. Only one person may go down the slide at a time. Children are not allowed to go down slide with an adult holding them.
- Adults are allowed in the slide drop area when assisting a child going down the slide. Catching a child is not allowed, but adults may be there to assist the child after the child lands in the water.
- All children 5 and younger must be within arms reach of adult (someone 18 or older) at all times unless the child has passed a swim test or is wearing a coast guard approved lifejacket.
- Lifeguards will give swim tests upon request or as deemed necessary by the lifeguard. Children who have passed a swim test will be given a wristband at the front desk if they are planning to swim that day.
- The lifeguards and program manager have the final authority in all matters pertaining to the conduct in the pool.
- Those failing to comply with the pool rules and decisions of the lifeguards may result in loss of pool privileges.
